Neiman Marcus Selects Local Charity Partners for Opening Gala at Its Walnut Creek Store

DALLAS, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Neiman Marcus announced today the four charities that will benefit from its Walnut Creek store gala to be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012. Those charities include: The Diablo Regional Arts Association, The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay, The Monument Crisis Center and The Taylor Family Foundation.

The charities selected in Walnut Creek meet a variety of needs for the community including: patronage for the performing arts, active volunteerism, women's leadership, hunger relief and support for local children.

"We are pleased to be partnering with such a wide range of wonderful non-profits in the Walnut Creek and East Bay area," said Jim Gold, President and CEO of Neiman Marcus Stores. "Neiman Marcus is very proud of its tradition of giving back to those communities in which we do business and we look forward to our future as a valued, contributing corporate partner in Walnut Creek."

Following are details on each of the non-profits selected:

The Diablo Regional Arts Association (DRAA) enriches the lives of East Bay residents by supporting programs at Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts. Through well-established business and community partnerships, fundraising and marketing expertise, DRAA supports arts organizations in their efforts to present professional-level theater, music, and dance performances, visual arts exhibitions, and family events. DRAA also works to bring low-income children and other underserved populations to enjoy artistic opportunities at the Lesher Center for the Arts.

The Junior League of Oakland-East Bay (JLOEB) is an organization of women working to improve the community through hands-on volunteerism and the development of women as civic leaders.  Since inception in 1935, JLOEB has contributed over seven million volunteer hours and three million dollars to East Bay communities. Additionally JLOEB has founded six non-profit organizations including the Volunteer Center of the East Bay, Super Stars Literacy, and the Junior Center of Art and Science.

The Monument Crisis Center serves low income families and individuals in Contra Costa County through service programs focused on providing nutritious food, education, general assistance and referrals. Over the last year, with the help of hundreds of volunteers and donors, the Monument Crisis Center distributed a five day supply of food to 64,000 people, providing one million meals to those most at risk in Contra Costa County. In addition to its service programs the Monument Crisis Center advocates for the issues and needs of at-risk populations, helping to connect the community in a forward effort to alleviate poverty.

The Taylor Family Foundation (TTFF) hosts a summer and weekend camp experience for Northern Californian children living with chronic and life threatening illnesses, developmental disabilities and youth at-risk at Camp Arroyo in Livermore. The Taylor Family Foundation offers an incomparable opportunity to more than 3,000 children annually and their families by providing therapeutic recreation, specialized support, and resources in a unique summer camp setting at no charge to any family.

The Neiman Marcus Walnut Creek store is the 7th store to open in California, making California one of the largest markets for Neiman Marcus stores, along with Texas and Florida who also have seven stores each. In keeping with the Neiman Marcus tradition, local non-profits are selected as beneficiaries for each opening gala in a new market.
