Neiman Marcus Presents The Neiman Marcus Award For Distinguished Service In The Field Of Fashion To Karl Lagerfeld

DALLAS, Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, at a private luncheon in the Dallas flagship store, Neiman Marcus Group CEO Karen Katz presented Chanel Artistic Director Karl Lagerfeld with The Neiman Marcus Award For Distinguished Service In The Field Of Fashion.  The award, instituted in 1938 by Stanley Marcus, was developed to bring emerging designers from Europe and America into public awareness.  The award is given to those who have made a distinctive contribution to the world of fashion by designing, promoting, or wearing fashion in a way that influences the public. 

More than 100 luminaries have received the award since its inception.  Past honorees include Coco Chanel, Princess Grace of Monaco, Estee Lauder, Bill Blass, Greer Garson, Oscar de la Renta, Giorgio Armani and Richard AvedonStanley Marcus received the Award at the Neiman Marcus gala celebrating his ninetieth birthday in 1995.  Mr. Lagerfeld won the award in 1980 and is the first recipient to win the award twice. 

The award was designed by celebrated American sculptor William King.  The bronze sculpture symbolizes the unfettered spirit of freedom so essential to the fashion creator.

Today's luncheon, hosted by Karen Katz, Jim Gold, president of Neiman Marcus Specialty Retail, and Anna Wintour, Conde Nast artistic director and editor-in-chief of Vogue, coincided with the Chanel Metiers d'Art show, which took place December 10 th at Fair Park, Dallas's historic exhibition venue.
